Joy is a net of love
by which you
can catch souls.
~ Mother Teresa
The Renewal of spring has almost become a joke in our family. The reason for this is that M has been known to launch into a very passionate long winded explanation of the transformation and it's glory for many years. His rendition and explanation of the renewal is something that we learned to lovingly endure as the years passed by. Our daughter got to the point where she would sigh and ask " Is this the renewal speech?" I strongly suspect that the time will come when she attacks those around her with her very own version of the renewal.
In a heartbeat, as if on demand, the first day of spring has ushered in a physical phenomena in front of my house. The ice is gone, and my front yard has become a superhighway for what seems like all of the animals on the planet.
In the last two days alone I have seen Mink, Coyotes, A big fat beaver, and all of the normal waterbirds including the migratory and some swans to boot. Wild Turkeys and Skunks seem to be running everywhere. The woods behind us are beginning to sound like a Jungle with all of the bird and squirrel chatter.
In the meantime, all of the human animals have come out as well. People are everywhere in the park enjoying the sun and even a few of them misbehaving by feeding the wildlife.
We got up to see what the new day would bring and M and a cute little Mink both jumped as they surprised each other. M had the camera in his hand and hit the button but it was dark out. He almost deleted the photo until I notice the little guy looking nervous up in the corner of the shot.
The very first flowers that we see are Snowdrops poking their way up and into the sunshine.
The water is still
very low and there are pieces of ancient boats being revealed in the shallows.
Their planks stick out like the ribs of a skeleton long forgotten.
Out in the country and the tractors are already haying last years grass while others are getting an early chance to turn their fields
. Anywhere and everywhere there are Maple Buckets on the trees with hopes of boiling syrup. I worry for those farmers this year because they need freezing nights and moderate days for the sap to flow. We jumped right into Spring this year with none of the in-between. It's really a dream come true if it holds up.
Welcome spring!
